Another day at the office

The venerable Twin Otter is capable of takeoff and landing using unprepared runways at many sites in Antarctica. However, it takes a lot of fuel to reach Ridge A from the South Pole, so a refueling stop is usually necessary. Advance LC-130 flights have airdropped drums for us. Though it's inefficient to transport fuel by Twin Otter (carry more, burn more), the pilots may also bring a full drum from the South Pole in the passenger compartment to prolong the lifetime of remote fuel caches such as this one.
